Designing with Personality
Designing with PersonalityINTRODUCTIONThis excersize was to improve a website of our choice from a list provided by the instructor. I chose to do Jeff Millers Handcrafter Furniture. We had to recreate at least three of the pages from the site, and experiement using new techniques, such as CSS3 animations.
MY EMOTIONAL DESIGN BRIEF
I chose to do this site because I felt Jeff really needed an upgrade to his site. If the website was a reflection of his handcrafted furniture, it would steer potential customers or students away. I wanted to bring his site to a modern state, with carefully thought placement and craft the site with structure and purpose much like his furniture.
BEFORE & AFTER REDESIGN
When I first visited Jeff's site, I felt I time traveled back to the 90s. The site failed to really showcase Jeff's work. Certain pages were confusing as well; For instance, when you scroll down his workshop page, you realize that you do not know how to get back home, or to another page on the site. It took me a little while before I realized his navigation bar is not where I would typically look for it.
I tried to make the website clean, and easy to navigate through. I wanted to showcase his work with larger images, and create a theme throughout the website.

User Experience (UX)
User Experience is the research that comes before designing. It is understanding the needs of the client, while discovering and fulfilling the needs of the user. With thorough research, a website can meet the expectations of both the client and the users. This is an example of what questions and problems can be resolved prior to the design process.
The process includes:
Developing a research plan and timeline to learn about the company and users.
Creating a Site Map for the website or mobile application.
Wireframes, which is a simple mockup of the website.
